Most golf courses earn the bulk of their revenue in a short season and carry their costs all year. Off-season pre-sales even that out: golfers lock in next season's golf at a good price, and you get paid months before the first tee time. Done well, it also fills your spring tee sheet with golfers who have already committed to your course.
What to pre-sell
- Round packs. 5- or 10-round packs for next season, at an early-bird price.
- Range passes. A pack of large buckets for golfers who want to practice.
- Season memberships. Member pricing or perks for the whole season.
- Lesson packages. A series of lessons with your pro, used in the spring.
- Holiday packs. A 2-round or 4-round pack at a holiday price.
Use early-bird pricing that steps up
The simplest way to create urgency is a price that goes up as the season gets closer. For example: the best price through December, a slightly higher price through February, and full price once the course opens. Golfers who buy early get the best deal, and everyone else has a reason not to wait.
In LoyalTrak, each price tier is its own pass type with a sale start and end date (a Pro feature). When one tier's sale ends, the next one takes over automatically.
Make passes good for all of next season
A pass bought in December shouldn't start counting down in December. Set a fixed expiry date at the end of next season — October 31, for example — so every pre-sale pass is good for the full season no matter when it was bought.
Plan around the calendar
- November: announce the pre-sale to last season's golfers first.
- Late November to December: a holiday special on smaller round packs, promoted to your regulars.
- January: New Year's goals. "Play more golf this year" is a common one.
- February to March: last call for early-bird pricing before opening day.
Limit the best deals
A limited number of founding memberships or first-tier round packs creates real urgency, and it protects you from selling too much golf at your lowest price. On the LoyalTrak Pro plan, you can cap how many of a pass type can be sold, and your shop page shows customers when only a few are left.
Get the word out
- Email last season's golfers — they are your best buyers.
- Post the link on your website, social media, and Google Business Profile.
- Put a QR code sign in the pro shop and clubhouse before you close for the season.
- Ask local businesses and community groups to share your holiday special.
In the spring: make redeeming easy
When the course opens, every pre-sale golfer shows up with a QR code on their phone. Staff in the pro shop scan it and tap once to use a round. Golfers can see how many rounds they have left anytime, and they get a reminder email when they're running low — the perfect time to sell them another pack.
Seasonal course on a budget? LoyalTrak's LoyalPak ($59 one-time) gives you a 90-day selling window with unlimited redemptions afterward — enough to cover a three-month winter pre-sale, such as mid-November to mid-February, with every round redeemable when you open.
